Tonight the Huskies head west to play the UMass Minuteman at the Mullins Center.
The Huskies will be looking to erase yet another hearbreaker from their memory. And they will also be looking to pick up some much needed Hockey East points.
They tied UMass in the season’s opening game when Braden Pimm scored with 2 seconds left. To be fair, UMass outplayed the Huskies for most of the game and the Huskies were lucky to get a point out of the contest. UMass is coming off two straight wins. Last week they beat BC and last night they beat Holy Cross. This is a much improved team for last year and NU will have their hands full tonight, no doubt.
For the Huskies, the defense has been improving slowly. The Power Play has not. 1 of the Huskies 2 PP goals on the year did come against the Minuteman, but as a unit, they have seemed to regress as the season has gone on. Hopeless would be an accurate description. The Power Play will suck most likely, but if they can stay out of the box and keep it 5 on 5, then they will a chance. The key is finding ways to score. The offense has hit a bit of a skid lately. Granted, that skid has coincided with some great goaltenders (Cannata, Milner), but its still an issue.
If the Huskies find ways to score against a UMass team that has given up a decent amount of goals, they can get a win.
They have had a tough couple games, but there have been positive signs. Maybe tonights the night they turn it into a win.
